Since its opening by Ron and Peggy Finnie in 1957, Finnies the Jewellers has grown to become one of the most respected businesses in Aberdeen. Originally operating from a small store in St Nicholas Street, it was Ron and Peggy alone that established a watch repair business and through their dedication and commitment, the business has grown into what you see today on George Street.
The Finnies of today is a luxury emporium housing many of the worlds most desirable brands. Showcasing over 26 of the worlds finest watch brands and one of the most impressive and expertly curated jewellery collections you are likely to see under one roof. The current generation of the Finnie family have certainly maintained the same commitment to excellence that Ron and Peggy started the business with over half a century ago.
Today the business continues to be run by the next generation of the Finnie family, with two of Ron and Peggy’s children driving the business forward. Sarah now looks after the diamond and jewellery side of the business whilst their son, Matthew, is responsible for the impressive watch portfolio that you see when visiting the store. Both continue to work tirelessly in developing the business and it is with great pride that today they are also supported in this by the third generation of the family as both of Sarah’s children, Dominique and Declan are now full time members of the Finnies team.
Finnies continually strives to remain at the forefront of modern styles and trends however with the ever changing landscape of the jewellery and watch industry it is not by accident that this happens. It is only by drawing on the combined experience of this multigenerational business and ensuring that all the staff receive continual market updates and training that Finnies has remained a leader in its field. In addition to this Dominique holds a Diploma in Graduate Gemmology which she studied in London, and then went on to spend 4 years working for Chanel Fine Jewellery and Declan is soon to travel to America where he will study for the same qualification and also gain some valuable experience working outside of the family business. Both these experiences, coupled with regular visits to numerous trade fairs around the world, ensure that Finnies remains a local jeweller with global appeal.
Finnies, is today as friendly and family orientated as it was back in 1957 and their commitment to providing a personal service to every one of their customers still shines through. This is demonstrated most effectively when you learn that there are currently 4 goldsmiths and 1 diamond setter present in store, bringing to bear a combined experience of over 165 years and therefore allowing the dreams of even the most imaginative customer to be realised.
The team at Finnies love what they do and given that they have members of their team who have been with them over 50 years, it is obvious that this family feeling is shared by all who work within the close knit team. It is this family feel, and a passion for a truly enchanting business, that they look forward to sharing with you when you walk through their door.
